There are always opportunities for talented researchers to join the group as higher degree research students and postdoctoral scholars.

PhD and Masters Students

Funding opportunities for prospective PhD students include via the Australian government which offers PhD Scholarships at UNSW via its Research Training Program (RTP) which covers both stipend and tuition. There are three application rounds per year and both domestic and international students can apply. In addition, Australia Awards Scholarships are long term development awards administered by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade. Australian government funded projects may also included funded PhD positions. Other country specific scholarships can be found here and include opportunities for Chinese, Vietnamese, German, Austrian, and Chilean students. For domestic students, fully funded positions are always available. In particular, domestic applicants may also be eligible for stipend top-ups via programs such as Elevate. Please contact Dr Michael Nielsen with inquiries about funded positions for research projects in:

  • Emissive energy harvesting, the thermoradiative diode, and radiative cooling

  • Singlet fission enhanced silicon photovoltaics

  • Hybrid solid-state inorganic-organic up-conversion
